Tom tem seis anos. Ele tem uma bicicleta nova. A bicicleta é vermelha. Ela tem uma campainha. A campainha faz “Kling-kling”.

Tom is six. He has a new bicycle. The bicycle is red. It has a bell. The bell goes “ding-ding”.

Mas Tom tem um problema. Ele não sabe andar de bicicleta. Ainda não.

But Tom has a problem. He can’t ride a bike. Not yet.

Sua irmã Mia tem dez anos. Mia anda rápido. Ela anda sem as mãos. Ela anda até com um pé só.

His sister Mia is ten. Mia rides fast. She rides with no hands. She even rides with just one foot.

“Hoje eu aprendo isso”, diz Tom. “Hoje eu ando!”

“Today I’m going to learn,” says Tom. “Today I’m going to ride!”

Papai vai com Tom ao parque. O caminho no parque é longo e plano. Papai segura a bicicleta. Tom senta no selim.

Dad goes to the park with Tom. The path in the park is long and flat. Dad holds the bicycle. Tom sits on the saddle.

“Vai!”, diz papai. Tom pisa nos pedais. Papai corre ao lado de Tom. Ele segura a bicicleta atrás.

“Go!” says Dad. Tom pushes the pedals. Dad runs next to Tom. He holds the bicycle tight at the back.

“Papai, não solta!” “Não, não. Eu estou segurando.”

“Dad, don’t let go!” “No, no. I’m holding on.”

Mas papai não é mais jovem. Ele corre e corre. Depois de cinco minutos o rosto dele está vermelho. Ele está tão vermelho quanto a bicicleta.

But Dad isn’t young any more. He runs and runs. After five minutes his face is red. It is as red as the bicycle.

“Pausa!”, grita papai. Ele senta em um banco e respira alto.

“Break!” calls Dad. He sits on a bench and breathes loudly.

Tom tenta sozinho. Ele anda um metro. Então ele cai. Bum! Ele anda dois metros. Bum! Agora o joelho dói.

Tom tries on his own. He rides one metre. Then he falls over. Bump! He rides two metres. Bump! Now his knee hurts.

Tom senta na grama. Ele está bravo. “A bicicleta é boba! Eu não consigo!”

Tom sits in the grass. He is angry. “The bike is stupid! I can’t do it!”
