Mă numesc Victor, am unsprezece ani și locuiesc cu părinții mei și cu două pisici într-un apartament la etajul trei. Mama mea se numește Cristina. Tatăl meu se numește Andrei. Pisicile se numesc Pixel și Mango.

My name is Victor, I’m eleven years old, and I live with my parents and two cats in a flat on the third floor. My mother’s name is Cristina. My father’s name is Andrei. The cats are called Pixel and Mango.

Pixel este neagră și foarte grasă. Mango este portocalie și foarte proastă. Odată, Mango s-a luptat o oră întreagă cu propria coadă. A pierdut.

Pixel is black and very fat. Mango is orange and very stupid. Once Mango fought with her own tail for an hour. She lost.

Mama mea iubește pisicile. Are un tricou cu pisici, o cană cu pisici și șosete cu pisici. Telefonul ei este plin cu poze cu pisici. Cu mine are doar patru poze.

My mother loves cats. She has a cat T-shirt, a cat mug and cat socks. Her phone is full of cat photos. Of me she has only four photos.

Într-o duminică din octombrie, ea și-a pus telefonul pe masă la micul dejun. Pe ecran era un pisoi mic și negru cu lăbuțe albe.

One Sunday in October, at breakfast, she put her phone on the table. On the screen was a small black kitten with white paws.

„Andrei”, a spus ea. „Uită-te. Acesta este Tofu. Tofu are nevoie de o familie.”

“Andrei,” she said. “Look. This is Tofu. Tofu needs a family.”

Tatăl meu nu s-a uitat la telefon. A băut cafeaua și a pus încet cana jos.

My father didn’t look at the phone. He drank his coffee and slowly put the cup down.

„Nu”, a spus el.

“No,” he said.

„Nici măcar nu l-ai văzut!”

“You haven’t even seen him yet!”

„Nu trebuie să-l văd. Avem două pisici. Două pisici sunt de ajuns. Două pisici sunt chiar prea multe. Pixel mi-a mâncat ieri pantoful.”

“I don’t need to see him. We have two cats. Two cats are enough. Two cats are actually too many. Pixel ate my shoe yesterday.”

„Doar a ros puțin din el.”

“She only chewed on it a bit.”

„Era pantoful meu de nuntă, Cristina!”

“It was my wedding shoe, Cristina!”
