Zidul bisericii

Noul preț

The new price

În dimineața următoare, doi bărbați din sat urcă pe acoperiș. Clatină des din cap.

The next morning, two men from the village climb onto the roof. They shake their heads a lot.

Sophie mă găsește în grădină. Poartă din nou sacoul ei alb și are acte noi în mână.

Sophie finds me in the garden. She is wearing her white blazer again, and she has new papers in her hand.

Sophie: Marco a făcut o nouă ofertă. Două milioane și jumătate. Din cauza acoperișului.

Sophie: Marco has made a new offer. Two and a half million. Because of the roof.

„Două milioane și jumătate? Acum trei zile erau patru!”

“Two and a half? Three days ago it was four!”

Sophie: Acum trei zile acoperișul nu era stricat. Fii realist, Tom. Sunt încă mulți bani.

Sophie: Three days ago, the roof was not broken. Be realistic, Tom. It’s still a lot of money.

„Ai fost la el toată noaptea, Sophie. A cui avocată ești? A mea sau a lui?”

“You were with him all night, Sophie. Whose lawyer are you? Mine or his?”

Fața ei devine albă. Pentru o secundă pare speriată. Apoi este din nou rece.

Her face goes white. For a second she looks afraid. Then she is cool again.

Sophie: O să mă prefac că nu ai spus asta.

Sophie: I’m going to pretend you didn’t say that.

Ea se întoarce în casă. Tocurile ei țăcăne pe pietre ca un ceas.

She walks back into the house. Her heels click on the stones like a clock.
