Elena’nın Bavulu

İlk Feribot

The first ferry

Pazar, sabah saat altı. Göl gri ve sessiz, suda da sis var.

Sunday, six o’clock in the morning. The lake is grey and quiet, and there is mist on the water.

Sophie’nin büyük siyah bavulunu limana indiriyorum. O yanımda yürüyor. Konuşmuyoruz.

I carry Sophie’s big black suitcase down to the pier. She walks next to me. We don’t talk.

Feribot çoktan burada. Mavi gömlekli bir adam bavulu alıyor.

The ferry is already there. A man in a blue shirt takes the suitcase.

Sophie: “İşte böyle. Bitti. İki yıl ve şimdi sabah saat altıda bir feribot.”

Sophie: So. That’s it. Two years, and now a ferry at six in the morning.

“Özür dilerim, Sophie.”

“I’m sorry, Sophie.”

Sophie: “Gerek yok. Sana yalan söyledim, Tom. Bunu biliyorum. Ama avukatın olarak sana bir şey söylüyorum. Bedava.”

Sophie: Don’t be. I lied to you, Tom. I know that. But let me tell you one thing as your lawyer. For free.

Sophie: “Evi sat ya da satma. Ama karar ver. Başkalarının senin yerine karar vermesine izin verme. Marco’ya, büyükannene ve bana izin verme.”

Sophie: Sell it or don’t sell it. But decide. Don’t let other people decide for you. Not Marco, not your grandmother, and not me.

Feribota biniyor. Geriye bakmıyor. Feribot yavaşça göle açılıyor ve birkaç dakika sonra siste sadece küçük beyaz bir nokta oluyor.

She walks up onto the ferry. She doesn’t look back. The ferry moves slowly out onto the lake, and after a few minutes it is only a small white point in the mist.

İskelede uzun süre duruyorum. Sonra villaya dönüyorum. Girişte bir bavul daha duruyor.

I stand on the pier for a long time. Then I walk back up to the villa. There is one more suitcase in the hall.
