Çok Geç
Too late
Diego Buenos Aires’te yaşıyor. Otuz altı yaşında. Büyük, kalabalık bir restoranda garsonluk yapıyor.
Diego lives in Buenos Aires. He is thirty-six. He is a waiter in a big, busy restaurant.
Her gece çalışıyor, saat altıdan gece bire kadar. Ayakları ağrıyor. Sırtı ağrıyor.
He works every night, from six to one in the morning. His feet hurt. His back hurts.
Bugün cuma gecesi. Restoran dolu. İnsanlar et yiyor ve kırmızı şarap içiyor. Konuşuyorlar ve gülüyorlar.
It is Friday night. The restaurant is full. People eat meat and drink red wine. They talk and laugh.
Patron “Diego! Dokuzuncu masa hesap istiyor!” diyor. “Ve dördüncü masa bir şişe şarap daha istiyor!”
“Diego! Table nine wants to pay!” says the boss. “And table four wants another bottle of wine!”
Diego “Evet patron,” diyor. Dokuzuncu masaya koşuyor. Dördüncü masaya koşuyor.
“Yes, boss,” says Diego. He runs to table nine. He runs to table four.
Köşede gitarlı bir adam var. Masalardaki insanlar için çalıyor. Kimse onu dinlemiyor.
In the corner, there is a man with a guitar. He plays for the people at the tables. Nobody listens to him.
Diego dinliyor. “Güzel,” diye düşünüyor. Müziği her zaman dinliyor.
Diego listens. “Nice,” he thinks. He always listens to the music.
Diego’nun evde bir gitarı var. Yatak odasındaki dolapta duruyor. O dolabı hiç açmıyor.
Diego has a guitar at home. It is in the cupboard in his bedroom. He never opens that cupboard.
Eski hayali müzik. Ama bir garsonun müzik için zamanı yok. Bir garsonun masaları var.
His old dream is music. But a waiter has no time for music. A waiter has tables.
“Diego! Neden orada duruyorsun? İkinci masa kahve istiyor!”
“Diego! Why are you standing there? Table two wants coffee!”
“Özür dilerim patron.”
“Sorry, boss.”
İkinci masadaki bir kadın ona gülümsüyor. “Yorgun görünüyorsun,” diyor.
A woman at table two smiles at him. “You look tired,” she says.
Diego “Her zaman yorgunum,” diyor. “İki kahve mi?”
“I am always tired,” says Diego. “Two coffees?”
