翌日、その皮をまとった狼は、羊たちと一緒に牧草地へと歩いていった。やがて一匹の子羊が狼の後をついて回るようになり、あっという間に連れ去られて屠殺されてしまった。
The next day, dressed in the skin, the Wolf strolled into the pasture with the Sheep. Soon a little Lamb was following him about and was quickly led away to slaughter.
その日の夕方、狼は群れと共に囲いの中に入った。ところが、運悪くその晩、羊飼いが羊肉のスープを食べたくなり、ナイフを手に取って囲いへとやってきた。そこで羊飼いが最初に手をかけて殺したのは、他ならぬ狼だった。
That evening the Wolf entered the fold with the flock. But it happened that the Shepherd took a fancy for mutton broth that very evening, and, picking up a knife, went to the fold. There the first he laid hands on and killed was the Wolf.
悪いことをする者は、しばしば自分のうそによって身を滅ぼすものだ。
