A Dog for One Week

Lukas is nine years old. He wants a dog. He wants a dog in the morning, at lunchtime and in the evening. He wants a dog every day.

लूकास नौ साल का है। वह एक कुत्ता चाहता है। वह सुबह, दोपहर और शाम को एक कुत्ता चाहता है। वह हर दिन एक कुत्ता चाहता है।

“Mum, please! A dog!” “No, Lukas. A dog is a lot of work.”

“माँ, कृपया! एक कुत्ता!” “नहीं, लूकास। कुत्ते में बहुत काम होता है।”

“Dad, please! A dog!” “No, Lukas. A dog is noisy. And it breaks everything.”

“पापा, कृपया! एक कुत्ता!” “नहीं, लूकास। कुत्ता शोर करता है। और वह सब कुछ तोड़ देता है।”

“But I’ll do everything!” says Lukas. “I’ll take the dog for walks. I’ll give it food. I’ll play with it. Every day!”

“लेकिन मैं सब कुछ करता हूँ!” लूकास कहता है। “मैं कुत्ते को घुमाने ले जाता हूँ। मैं उसे खाना देता हूँ। मैं उसके साथ खेलता हूँ। हर दिन!”

Mum looks at Dad. Dad looks at Mum. “Hmm,” says Mum. “Hmm,” says Dad.

माँ पापा को देखती हैं। पापा माँ को देखते हैं। “हूँ”, माँ कहती हैं। “हूँ”, पापा कहते हैं।

Just then the doorbell rings. Mr Bauer is standing at the door. He lives downstairs in the building. He has a dog. The dog’s name is Otto. Otto is small, white and very wild.

तभी घंटी बजती है। श्री बाऊअर दरवाज़े पर खड़े हैं। वह घर में नीचे रहते हैं। उनके पास एक कुत्ता है। कुत्ते का नाम ओटो है। ओटो छोटा, सफ़ेद और बहुत चंचल है।

“I have a problem,” says Mr Bauer. “I’m going to Italy tomorrow, for one week. But Otto can’t come. Can Otto stay with you for a week?”

“मुझे एक समस्या है”, श्री बाऊअर कहते हैं। “मैं कल एक हफ़्ते के लिए इटली जा रहा हूँ। लेकिन ओटो साथ नहीं जा सकता। क्या ओटो एक हफ़्ते आप लोगों के पास रह सकता है?”

Lukas jumps up. “Yes! Yes! Yes!” Dad laughs. “All right. One week. This is a test, Lukas.”

लूकास उछलता है। “हाँ! हाँ! हाँ!” पापा हँसते हैं। “ठीक है। एक हफ़्ता। यह एक परीक्षा है, लूकास।”

Monday. Otto arrives. He runs through the flat. He runs into the kitchen, into the bathroom and into the bedroom. He jumps onto the sofa. He jumps onto Dad’s bed.

सोमवार। ओटो आता है। वह घर में दौड़ता है। वह रसोई में, गुसलखाने में और सोने के कमरे में दौड़ता है। वह सोफ़े पर कूदता है। वह पापा के बिस्तर पर कूदता है।

Lukas takes Otto for a walk in the morning. He takes Otto for a walk at lunchtime. He takes Otto for a walk in the evening. In the evening Lukas is very tired. But he is happy.

लूकास सुबह ओटो को घुमाने ले जाता है। वह दोपहर को ओटो को घुमाने ले जाता है। वह शाम को ओटो को घुमाने ले जाता है। शाम को लूकास बहुत थक जाता है। लेकिन वह खुश है।

Tuesday. It is raining. Otto doesn’t want to go out in the rain. Lukas waits. Otto waits too. Then Otto makes a puddle. In the kitchen. Lukas cleans the floor.

मंगलवार। बारिश हो रही है। ओटो बारिश में नहीं जाना चाहता। लूकास इंतज़ार करता है। ओटो भी इंतज़ार करता है। फिर ओटो सुसु कर देता है। रसोई में। लूकास फ़र्श साफ़ करता है।

Wednesday. Otto finds Dad’s shoes. He finds the shoes very tasty. Dad does not find that funny.

बुधवार। ओटो को पापा के जूते मिलते हैं। उसे जूते बहुत स्वादिष्ट लगते हैं। पापा को यह मज़ाकिया नहीं लगता।
