El Zorro y las Uvas El Zorro un día divisó un hermoso racimo de uvas maduras que colgaban de una vid entrenada a lo largo de las ramas de un árbol.

The Æsop for Children The Fox & the Grapes A Fox one day spied a beautiful bunch of ripe grapes hanging from a vine trained along the branches of a tree.

Las uvas parecían a punto de reventar de jugo, y al Zorro se le hizo agua la boca mientras las miraba con anhelo.

The grapes seemed ready to burst with juice, and the Fox’s mouth watered as he gazed longingly at them.

El racimo colgaba de una rama alta, y el Zorro tuvo que saltar para alcanzarlo. La primera vez que saltó, no lo alcanzó por mucho. Así que se alejó un poco y dio un salto corriendo hacia él, solo para quedarse corto una vez más.

The bunch hung from a high branch, and the Fox had to jump for it. The first time he jumped he missed it by a long way. So he walked off a short distance and took a running leap at it, only to fall short once more.

Una y otra vez lo intentó, pero en vano.

Again and again he tried, but in vain.

Ahora se sentó y miró las uvas con disgusto.

Now he sat down and looked at the grapes in disgust.

“¡Qué tonto soy!”, dijo. “Aquí me estoy agotando para conseguir un racimo de uvas agrias que no valen la pena.”

“What a fool I am,” he said. “Here I am wearing myself out to get a bunch of sour grapes that are not worth gaping for.”

Y se alejó muy, muy con desdén.

And off he walked very, very scornfully.

Hay muchos que pretenden despreciar y menospreciar aquello que está fuera de su alcance.

There are many who pretend to despise and belittle that which is beyond their reach.
