Le cinque

È venerdì, le cinque di mattina. Nina apre gli occhi.

It is Friday, five o’clock in the morning. Nina opens her eyes.

È molto buio e molto silenzioso.

It is very dark and very quiet.

Max non è sul letto. Questo è nuovo.

Max is not on the bed. That is new.

Sente qualcosa. Chi lavora alle cinque di mattina?

She hears something. Who is working at five o’clock in the morning?

Scende le scale, lentamente.

She goes down the stairs, slowly.

Si ferma sul gradino venti. Sente un passo.

She stops on stair twenty. She hears a step.

È laggiù, in cucina.

It is down there, in the kitchen.

Sente un secondo passo.

She hears a second step.

C’è la porta della cucina. È chiusa.

There is the kitchen door. It is closed.

C’è una piccola luce gialla sotto.

There is a small yellow light under it.

A questa porta fa caldo. Dietro c’è pane fresco.

It is hot at this door. There is fresh bread behind it.

Nina mette la testa sul pavimento. Guarda sotto la porta.

Nina puts her head on the floor. She looks under the door.

Vede due piccole scarpe. Sono vecchie scarpe nere.

She sees two small shoes. They are old black shoes.

Vanno al tavolo. Vanno alla finestra.

They go to the table. They go to the window.
