Dlaczego

Jest czwarta po południu. W kuchni jest cicho.

It is four o’clock in the afternoon. The kitchen is quiet.

Na talerzu nie ma już chleba.

There is no more bread on the plate.

Nina kładzie klucz na stole.

Nina puts her key on the table.

„Dlaczego?” — mówi.

“Why?” she says.

Babcia patrzy na klucz.

Grandma looks at the key.

„Dlaczego co?”

“Why what?”

„Dlaczego to wszystko? Liścik? Koperta? Niebieskie drzwi?”

“Why all this? A note? An envelope? A blue door?”

„To są dobre drzwi.”

“It is a good door.”

„Jest dużo niebieskich drzwi, babciu! Nie! Nie! Nie!”

“There are a lot of blue doors, Grandma! No! No! No!”

„Tak.”

“Yes.”

„Masz telefon! Możesz powiedzieć: Nina, przyjdź do hotelu.”

“You have a phone! You can say: Nina, come to the hotel.”

„Tak” — mówi babcia. „Mogę to powiedzieć.”

“Yes,” Grandma says. “I can say that.”

Nina wstaje. Krzyczy.

Nina stands up. She shouts.

Krzyczy o drzwiach. Krzyczy o deszczu i autobusie.

She shouts about the doors. She shouts about the rain and the bus.
