Por Quê

São quatro horas da tarde. A cozinha está quieta.

It is four o’clock in the afternoon. The kitchen is quiet.

Não tem mais pão no prato.

There is no more bread on the plate.

Nina coloca a chave dela na mesa.

Nina puts her key on the table.

“Por quê?” ela diz.

“Why?” she says.

A vó olha para a chave.

Grandma looks at the key.

“Por que o quê?”

“Why what?”

“Por que tudo isso? Um bilhete? Um envelope? Uma porta azul?”

“Why all this? A note? An envelope? A blue door?”

“É uma boa porta.”

“It is a good door.”

“Tem muitas portas azuis, vó! Não! Não! Não!”

“There are a lot of blue doors, Grandma! No! No! No!”

“Sim.”

“Yes.”

“Você tem um celular! Você pode dizer: Nina, venha para o hotel.”

“You have a phone! You can say: Nina, come to the hotel.”

“Sim,” a vó diz. “Eu posso dizer isso.”

“Yes,” Grandma says. “I can say that.”

Nina levanta. Ela grita.

Nina stands up. She shouts.

Ela grita sobre as portas. Ela grita sobre a chuva e o ônibus.

She shouts about the doors. She shouts about the rain and the bus.
