Paul is zes. Hij heeft een wiebeltand. De tand zit voorin, bovenin, in het midden.

Paul is six. He has a wobbly tooth. The tooth is at the front, at the top, in the middle.

Paul wiebelt met zijn tong. De tand gaat naar voren. Paul wiebelt weer. De tand gaat naar achteren. Maar hij valt er niet uit.

Paul wiggles it with his tongue. The tooth moves forward. Paul wiggles it again. The tooth moves back. But it won’t come out.

Op school heeft Lisa een gaatje. Jonas heeft twee gaatjes. En Ali heeft zelfs drie gaatjes. Alleen Paul heeft nog geen gaatje.

At school Lisa has a gap. Jonas has two gaps. And Ali even has three gaps. Only Paul has no gap yet.

“De tandenfee komt bij Ali,” zegt Lisa. “Elke nacht. Ali is rijk.”

“The tooth fairy comes to Ali,” says Lisa. “Every night. Ali is rich.”

Paul wil ook een gaatje. En hij wil ook de tandenfee.

Paul wants a gap too. And he wants the tooth fairy too.

Thuis vraagt hij het aan mama. “Mama, hoe gaat de tand eruit?”

At home he asks Mum. “Mum, how does the tooth come out?”

“Eet een appel,” zegt mama. “Een grote, harde appel.”

“Eat an apple,” says Mum. “A big, hard apple.”

Paul eet een appel. Hij bijt hard. De tand wiebelt. Maar hij blijft zitten. Paul eet nog een appel. En nog een. Nu heeft Paul buikpijn. Maar de tand zit er nog steeds.

Paul eats an apple. He bites hard. The tooth wobbles. But it stays in. Paul eats another apple. And another one. Now Paul has a tummy ache. But the tooth is still there.

Dan komt papa thuis. “Ik heb een plan,” zegt hij. Hij pakt een touw. “We binden het touw aan de tand. En het touw binden we aan de deur. Dan doe ik de deur dicht. Boem! En de tand is eruit.”

Then Dad comes home. “I have a plan,” he says. He fetches a piece of string. “We tie the string to the tooth. And we tie the string to the door. Then I shut the door. Bang! And the tooth is out.”

Paul kijkt naar het touw. Hij kijkt naar de deur. Hij kijkt naar papa. “Nee, dank je,” zegt Paul. Hij rent snel naar zijn kamer.

Paul looks at the string. He looks at the door. He looks at Dad. “No, thank you,” says Paul. He runs quickly to his room.
