Paul altı yaşında. Bir dişi sallanıyor. Diş önde, yukarıda, ortada.
Paul is six. He has a wobbly tooth. The tooth is at the front, at the top, in the middle.
Paul diliyle dişini sallıyor. Diş öne gidiyor. Paul tekrar sallıyor. Diş arkaya gidiyor. Ama diş düşmüyor.
Paul wiggles it with his tongue. The tooth moves forward. Paul wiggles it again. The tooth moves back. But it won’t come out.
Okulda Lisa’nın bir boşluğu var. Jonas’ın iki boşluğu var. Ali’nin üç boşluğu bile var. Sadece Paul’un henüz boşluğu yok.
At school Lisa has a gap. Jonas has two gaps. And Ali even has three gaps. Only Paul has no gap yet.
“Diş perisi Ali’ye geliyor” diyor Lisa. “Her gece. Ali zengin.”
“The tooth fairy comes to Ali,” says Lisa. “Every night. Ali is rich.”
Paul da bir boşluk istiyor. O da diş perisini istiyor.
Paul wants a gap too. And he wants the tooth fairy too.
Eve gidiyor ve annesine soruyor. “Anne, diş nasıl çıkıyor?”
At home he asks Mum. “Mum, how does the tooth come out?”
“Bir elma ye” diyor anne. “Büyük ve sert bir elma.”
“Eat an apple,” says Mum. “A big, hard apple.”
Paul bir elma yiyor. Sert ısırıyor. Diş sallanıyor. Ama diş düşmüyor. Paul bir elma daha yiyor. Bir tane daha yiyor. Şimdi Paul’un karnı ağrıyor. Ama diş hâlâ orada.
Paul eats an apple. He bites hard. The tooth wobbles. But it stays in. Paul eats another apple. And another one. Now Paul has a tummy ache. But the tooth is still there.
Sonra baba eve geliyor. “Benim bir planım var” diyor. Bir ip alıyor. “İpi dişe bağlıyoruz. İpi kapıya bağlıyoruz. Sonra kapıyı kapatıyorum. Güm! Diş dışarı çıkıyor.”
Then Dad comes home. “I have a plan,” he says. He fetches a piece of string. “We tie the string to the tooth. And we tie the string to the door. Then I shut the door. Bang! And the tooth is out.”
Paul ipe bakıyor. Kapıya bakıyor. Babaya bakıyor. “Hayır, teşekkürler” diyor Paul. Hızlıca odasına koşuyor.
Paul looks at the string. He looks at the door. He looks at Dad. “No, thank you,” says Paul. He runs quickly to his room.
