Paul sáu tuổi. Cậu có một chiếc răng lung lay. Chiếc răng ở phía trước, ở trên, ở chính giữa.
Paul is six. He has a wobbly tooth. The tooth is at the front, at the top, in the middle.
Paul dùng lưỡi đẩy răng. Chiếc răng nghiêng ra phía trước. Paul lại đẩy. Chiếc răng nghiêng ra phía sau. Nhưng răng không rụng ra.
Paul wiggles it with his tongue. The tooth moves forward. Paul wiggles it again. The tooth moves back. But it won’t come out.
Ở trường, Lisa có một chỗ sún. Jonas có hai chỗ sún. Và Ali thậm chí có ba chỗ sún. Chỉ có Paul vẫn chưa có chỗ sún nào.
At school Lisa has a gap. Jonas has two gaps. And Ali even has three gaps. Only Paul has no gap yet.
“Nàng tiên răng đến chỗ Ali,” Lisa nói. “Mỗi đêm. Ali giàu lắm.”
“The tooth fairy comes to Ali,” says Lisa. “Every night. Ali is rich.”
Paul cũng muốn có một chỗ sún. Và cậu cũng muốn nàng tiên răng đến.
Paul wants a gap too. And he wants the tooth fairy too.
Ở nhà, cậu hỏi mẹ. “Mẹ ơi, làm sao để răng rụng ra?”
At home he asks Mum. “Mum, how does the tooth come out?”
“Con ăn một quả táo đi,” mẹ nói. “Một quả táo to và cứng.”
“Eat an apple,” says Mum. “A big, hard apple.”
Paul ăn một quả táo. Cậu cắn mạnh. Chiếc răng lung lay. Nhưng răng vẫn ở yên đó. Paul ăn thêm một quả táo. Rồi thêm một quả nữa. Bây giờ Paul bị đau bụng. Nhưng chiếc răng vẫn còn đó.
Paul eats an apple. He bites hard. The tooth wobbles. But it stays in. Paul eats another apple. And another one. Now Paul has a tummy ache. But the tooth is still there.
Then Dad comes home. “I have a plan,” he says. He fetches a piece of string. “We tie the string to the tooth. And we tie the string to the door. Then I shut the door. Bang! And the tooth is out.”
Paul nhìn sợi dây. Cậu nhìn cánh cửa. Cậu nhìn bố. “Không, con cảm ơn bố,” Paul nói. Cậu chạy nhanh vào phòng của mình.
Paul looks at the string. He looks at the door. He looks at Dad. “No, thank you,” says Paul. He runs quickly to his room.
