Paul tem seis anos. Ele tem um dente mole. O dente fica na frente, em cima, no meio.

Paul is six. He has a wobbly tooth. The tooth is at the front, at the top, in the middle.

Paul balança o dente com a língua. O dente vai para frente. Paul balança de novo. O dente vai para trás. Mas ele não cai.

Paul wiggles it with his tongue. The tooth moves forward. Paul wiggles it again. The tooth moves back. But it won’t come out.

Na escola, a Lisa tem uma janelinha. O Jonas tem duas janelinhas. E o Ali tem até três janelinhas. Só o Paul ainda não tem nenhuma janelinha.

At school Lisa has a gap. Jonas has two gaps. And Ali even has three gaps. Only Paul has no gap yet.

“A fada do dente vem visitar o Ali”, diz a Lisa. “Toda noite. O Ali é rico.”

“The tooth fairy comes to Ali,” says Lisa. “Every night. Ali is rich.”

Paul também quer uma janelinha. E ele também quer a fada do dente.

Paul wants a gap too. And he wants the tooth fairy too.

Em casa, ele pergunta para a mamãe. “Mamãe, como o dente sai?”

At home he asks Mum. “Mum, how does the tooth come out?”

“Come uma maçã”, diz a mamãe. “Uma maçã grande e dura.”

“Eat an apple,” says Mum. “A big, hard apple.”

Paul come uma maçã. Ele morde com força. O dente balança. Mas ele continua lá. Paul come outra maçã. E mais uma. Agora o Paul está com dor de barriga. Mas o dente ainda está lá.

Paul eats an apple. He bites hard. The tooth wobbles. But it stays in. Paul eats another apple. And another one. Now Paul has a tummy ache. But the tooth is still there.

Então o papai chega em casa. “Eu tenho um plano”, diz ele. Ele pega um barbante. “Nós amarramos o barbante no dente. E amarramos o barbante na porta. Depois eu fecho a porta. Bum! E o dente sai.”

Then Dad comes home. “I have a plan,” he says. He fetches a piece of string. “We tie the string to the tooth. And we tie the string to the door. Then I shut the door. Bang! And the tooth is out.”

Paul olha para o barbante. Ele olha para a porta. Ele olha para o papai. “Não, obrigado”, diz o Paul. Ele corre rápido para o seu quarto.

Paul looks at the string. He looks at the door. He looks at Dad. “No, thank you,” says Paul. He runs quickly to his room.
