Su mesa está al lado de la ventana. Le gusta su trabajo. «Un buen equipo», piensa.

“Friday is the boss’s birthday,” says a woman from the team. “He is fifty. We want to buy a present.”
«Un buen regalo», dice un hombre joven. «Un bolígrafo bueno. O un reloj».
“A good present,” says a young man. “A nice pen. Or a watch.”
«Cada persona pone tres mil yenes en un sobre», dice la mujer. «¿De acuerdo?».
“Everybody puts three thousand yen in an envelope,” says the woman. “OK?”
«De acuerdo», dicen todos. Kenji dice «de acuerdo» también, muy bajo.
“OK,” says everybody. Kenji says “OK” too, very quietly.
Por la tarde, la gente va a la mesa de Kenji. Le dan dinero. «Toma, Kenji», dice el hombre joven. «Para el sobre».
In the afternoon, people come to Kenji’s desk. They give him money. “Here, Kenji,” says the young man. “For the envelope.”
«¿Por qué yo?», pregunta Kenji.

«Porque eres cuidadoso», dice la mujer. «Nunca pierdes nada».
“Because you are careful,” says the woman. “You never lose anything.”
Kenji mira el sobre. Es blanco. Delante, escribe: «Para el jefe. Kenji Tanaka, Equipo de Ventas».
Kenji looks at the envelope. It is white. On the front, he writes: “For the boss. Kenji Tanaka, Sales Team.”
A las seis en punto, cuenta el dinero. «Diez personas, tres mil yenes. Treinta mil yenes».
At six o’clock, he counts the money. “Ten people, three thousand yen. Thirty thousand yen.”
