Ahora eres la cocinera

Cada mañana durante diez semanas, Nina y la abuela hacen pan juntas.

Every morning for ten weeks, Nina and Grandma make bread together.

Cada mañana la abuela lo come y dice una palabra.

Every morning Grandma eats it and says one word.

«No».

“No.”

Es una palabra muy buena en esa cocina. A Sara también le gusta.

It is a very good word in that kitchen. Sara likes it too.

Hoy la abuela parte en dos el pan de Nina. Lo come despacio.

Today Grandma breaks Nina’s bread in two. She eats it slowly.

Se lo come todo. No dice nada mucho tiempo.

She eats all of it. She says nothing for a long time.

Luego pone una llave en la mesa.

Then she puts a key on the table.

Es pequeña y vieja. Es la misma llave.

It is small and old. It is the same key.

Ahora hay dos llaves en la mesa.

Now there are two keys on the table.

«¿Qué llave es esta?», dice Nina.

“Which key is this?” Nina says.

«Esa es mi llave», dice la abuela. «Ahora tú eres la cocinera».

“That is my key,” Grandma says. “Now you are the cook.”

Nina mira a la abuela.

Nina looks at Grandma.

«¿Y tú?».

“And you?”

La abuela mira por la ventana.

Grandma looks out of the window.
