La casa que escucha

En marzo de 2050 nos mudamos a la casa nueva. Tom, mi hija Mia y yo. La casa está en las afueras de Friburgo, entre un bosque y un pequeño río.

In March 2050 we moved into the new house. Tom, my daughter Mia and I. The house stands on the edge of Freiburg, between a forest and a small river.

No es una casa normal. Tiene un ordenador y el ordenador puede hablar. Se llama Otto. Otto enciende y apaga la luz. Prepara café y abre las puertas.

It isn’t a normal house. It has a computer, and the computer can talk. It’s called Otto. Otto turns the lights on and off. He makes coffee and opens the doors.

La primera noche, Mia estaba en la cocina y preguntó en voz alta: «Otto, ¿eres un robot?»

On the first evening Mia stood in the kitchen and asked loudly, “Otto, are you a robot?”

«No», respondió Otto. Su voz era tranquila y amable. «Soy la casa. Escucho y ayudo».

“No,” Otto answered. His voice was calm and friendly. “I am the house. I listen and I help.”

Mia se rió. Tom negó con la cabeza. «Una casa que escucha», dijo. «Eso es un poco raro».

Mia laughed. Tom shook his head. “A house that listens,” he said. “That’s a bit strange.”

La casa era muy barata. La antigua dueña, la señora Winter, murió en invierno. Vivió aquí sola durante treinta años. El agente inmobiliario no contó mucho sobre ella.

The house was very cheap. The old owner, Mrs Winter, died in the winter. She lived here alone, for thirty years. The estate agent didn’t tell us much about her.
