A casa que escuta

Em março de 2050, nós nos mudamos para a casa nova. O Tom, minha filha Mia e eu. A casa fica na periferia de Freiburg, entre uma floresta e um pequeno rio.

In March 2050 we moved into the new house. Tom, my daughter Mia and I. The house stands on the edge of Freiburg, between a forest and a small river.

Não é uma casa normal. Tem um computador e o computador fala. Ele se chama Otto. O Otto acende e apaga a luz. Ele faz café e abre as portas.

It isn’t a normal house. It has a computer, and the computer can talk. It’s called Otto. Otto turns the lights on and off. He makes coffee and opens the doors.

Na primeira noite, a Mia estava na cozinha e perguntou em voz alta: “Otto, você é um robô?”

On the first evening Mia stood in the kitchen and asked loudly, “Otto, are you a robot?”

“Não”, respondeu o Otto. A voz dele era calma e amigável. “Eu sou a casa. Eu escuto e eu ajudo.”

“No,” Otto answered. His voice was calm and friendly. “I am the house. I listen and I help.”

A Mia riu. O Tom balançou a cabeça. “Uma casa que escuta”, disse ele. “Isso é um pouco estranho.”

Mia laughed. Tom shook his head. “A house that listens,” he said. “That’s a bit strange.”

A casa era muito barata. A antiga proprietária, a senhora Winter, morreu no inverno. Ela morou aqui sozinha durante trinta anos. O corretor não contou muito sobre ela.

The house was very cheap. The old owner, Mrs Winter, died in the winter. She lived here alone, for thirty years. The estate agent didn’t tell us much about her.
