Ekim ayında büyükannemin yanına gittim. Alpler’deki küçük bir köyde, tam bir gölün kıyısında oturuyor. Köyün adı Seewil. Kışın orada sadece iki yüz kişi yaşıyor.
In October I went to see my grandmother. She lives in a small village in the Alps, right by a lake. The village is called Seewil. In winter only two hundred people live there.
Büyükannemin adı Vreni. Yetmiş yaşında ve kırk yıl boyunca fizik öğretmenliği yaptı. Zeki bir kadın ve sadece gözle görülen şeylere inanıyor.
My grandmother’s name is Vreni. She is seventy years old and was a physics teacher for forty years. She is clever, and she only believes what she can see.
Telefonda bana şöyle dedi: “Jonas, lütfen gel. Yardımına ihtiyacım var. Ve kameranı getir.” Daha fazla açıklamak istemedi.
On the phone she told me, “Jonas, please come. I need your help. And bring your camera.” She didn’t want to explain more.
Akşam vardım. Büyükannem çorba pişirdi ve mutfakta yemek yedik. Sonra saate baktı. “Neredeyse on bir oldu” dedi. “Pencereye gel.”
I arrived in the evening. She had cooked soup, and we ate in the kitchen. Then she looked at the clock. “It’s almost eleven,” she said. “Come with me to the window.”
Dışarısı tamamen karanlıktı. Göl siyah ve sakindi. Sonra onu gördüm. Suyun derinliklerinde, gölün ortasında bir ışık vardı. Maviydi ve yavaşça yanıp sönüyordu.
Outside everything was dark. The lake was black and calm. Then I saw it. Deep under the water, in the middle of the lake, there was a light. It was blue, and it blinked slowly.
“Üç haftadır böyle” dedi büyükannem. “Her gece saat on birde. Ve sabah saat dörtte yine yok oluyor.”
“For three weeks,” my grandmother said. “Every night at eleven. And at four in the morning it’s gone again.”
