Ella tiene ocho años. Va a segundo de primaria. Su profesora se llama señora Sommer. La señora Sommer es simpática.
Ella is eight. She is in the second year at school. Her teacher is called Mrs Sommer. Mrs Sommer is nice.
Hoy es lunes. Al lado de Ella hay un sitio libre. Ahí se sienta hoy un chico nuevo.
Today is Monday. There is a free seat next to Ella. Today a new boy is sitting there.
«Este es Luca», dice la señora Sommer. «Luca viene de Italia. Ahora vive aquí. Todavía no habla alemán».
“This is Luca,” says Mrs Sommer. “Luca comes from Italy. He lives here now. He doesn’t speak any German yet.”
Luca tiene el pelo negro y una chaqueta azul. Mira a la mesa. No dice nada.
Luca has black hair and a blue jacket. He looks down at the desk. He says nothing.
Ella sonríe. «¡Hola! Yo soy Ella».
Ella smiles. “Hello! I’m Ella.”
Luca mira a Ella. Dice algo. Pero Ella no lo entiende. Suena bonito, como una canción. Pero es italiano.
Luca looks at Ella. He says something. But Ella doesn’t understand it. It sounds nice, like a song. But it is Italian.
La clase empieza. La señora Sommer escribe en la pizarra. Los niños leen. Los niños escriben. Luca no escribe nada. Mira por la ventana.
The lesson begins. Mrs Sommer writes on the board. The children read. The children write. Luca writes nothing. He looks out of the window.
Ella piensa: Luca está triste. Es nuevo. No conoce a nadie. Y no entiende nada. Eso es difícil.
Ella thinks: Luca is sad. He is new. He doesn’t know anyone. And he doesn’t understand anything. That’s hard.
En el recreo, los niños juegan en el patio. Luca está solo junto a la pared.
At break time the children play in the playground. Luca stands alone by the wall.
Ella tiene una idea. Busca papel y un lápiz. Dibuja un sol. Luego señala el sol. «Sol», dice ella.
Ella has an idea. She fetches some paper and a pencil. She draws a sun. Then she points at the sun. “Sonne,” she says.
Luca mira el dibujo. Luego sonríe un poco. «Sole», dice él.
Luca looks at the picture. Then he smiles a little. “Sole,” he says.
«¡Sole!», dice Ella. «¡Sol es sole!»
“Sole!” says Ella. “Sonne is sole!”
