새 친구

엘라는 여덟 살이다. 엘라는 2학년이다. 엘라의 선생님은 조머 선생님이다. 조머 선생님은 친절하다.

Ella is eight. She is in the second year at school. Her teacher is called Mrs Sommer. Mrs Sommer is nice.

오늘은 월요일이다. 엘라 옆에 빈자리가 하나 있다. 오늘 거기에 남자아이가 앉는다. 새 친구다.

Today is Monday. There is a free seat next to Ella. Today a new boy is sitting there.

“이 친구는 루카예요.” 조머 선생님이 말한다. “루카는 이탈리아에서 왔어요. 이제 여기에서 살아요. 루카는 아직 독일어를 못 해요.”

“This is Luca,” says Mrs Sommer. “Luca comes from Italy. He lives here now. He doesn’t speak any German yet.”

루카는 머리가 까맣다. 그리고 파란 재킷을 입고 있다. 루카는 책상만 본다. 아무 말도 안 한다.

Luca has black hair and a blue jacket. He looks down at the desk. He says nothing.

엘라가 웃는다. “안녕! 나는 엘라야.”

Ella smiles. “Hello! I’m Ella.”

루카가 엘라를 본다. 루카가 무슨 말을 한다. 하지만 엘라는 못 알아듣는다. 노래처럼 예쁘다. 하지만 이탈리아어다.

Luca looks at Ella. He says something. But Ella doesn’t understand it. It sounds nice, like a song. But it is Italian.

수업이 시작된다. 조머 선생님이 칠판에 글을 쓴다. 아이들이 읽는다. 아이들이 쓴다. 루카는 아무것도 안 쓴다. 루카는 창밖을 본다.

The lesson begins. Mrs Sommer writes on the board. The children read. The children write. Luca writes nothing. He looks out of the window.

엘라는 생각한다. 루카는 슬프다. 루카는 새 친구다. 루카는 여기에 친구가 없다. 그리고 루카는 아무것도 못 알아듣는다. 그건 힘들다.

Ella thinks: Luca is sad. He is new. He doesn’t know anyone. And he doesn’t understand anything. That’s hard.

쉬는 시간에 아이들은 운동장에서 논다. 루카는 혼자 벽 옆에 서 있다.

At break time the children play in the playground. Luca stands alone by the wall.

엘라에게 좋은 생각이 있다. 엘라는 종이와 연필을 가져온다. 엘라는 해를 그린다. 그리고 해를 가리킨다. “조네.” 엘라가 말한다.

Ella has an idea. She fetches some paper and a pencil. She draws a sun. Then she points at the sun. “Sonne,” she says.

루카가 그림을 본다. 그리고 조금 웃는다. “솔레.” 루카가 말한다.

Luca looks at the picture. Then he smiles a little. “Sole,” he says.

“솔레!” 엘라가 말한다. “조네는 솔레야!”

“Sole!” says Ella. “Sonne is sole!”
