Ella tem oito anos. Ela vai para a segunda série. A professora dela se chama Sra. Sommer. A Sra. Sommer é legal.

Ella is eight. She is in the second year at school. Her teacher is called Mrs Sommer. Mrs Sommer is nice.

Hoje é segunda-feira. Ao lado de Ella tem um lugar livre. Hoje um menino novo senta lá.

Today is Monday. There is a free seat next to Ella. Today a new boy is sitting there.

“Este é o Luca”, diz a Sra. Sommer. “O Luca vem da Itália. Ele mora aqui agora. Ele ainda não fala alemão.”

“This is Luca,” says Mrs Sommer. “Luca comes from Italy. He lives here now. He doesn’t speak any German yet.”

Luca tem cabelo preto e uma jaqueta azul. Ele olha para a mesa. Ele não diz nada.

Luca has black hair and a blue jacket. He looks down at the desk. He says nothing.

Ella sorri. “Olá! Eu sou a Ella.”

Ella smiles. “Hello! I’m Ella.”

Luca olha para Ella. Ele diz algo. Mas Ella não entende. Soa bonito, como uma música. Mas é italiano.

Luca looks at Ella. He says something. But Ella doesn’t understand it. It sounds nice, like a song. But it is Italian.

A aula começa. A Sra. Sommer escreve na lousa. As crianças leem. As crianças escrevem. Luca não escreve nada. Ele olha pela janela.

The lesson begins. Mrs Sommer writes on the board. The children read. The children write. Luca writes nothing. He looks out of the window.

Ella pensa: o Luca está triste. Ele é novo. Ele não conhece ninguém. E ele não entende nada. Isso é difícil.

Ella thinks: Luca is sad. He is new. He doesn’t know anyone. And he doesn’t understand anything. That’s hard.

No recreio, as crianças brincam no pátio. Luca fica sozinho, encostado na parede.

At break time the children play in the playground. Luca stands alone by the wall.

Ella tem uma ideia. Ela pega papel e uma caneta. Ela desenha um sol. Então ela aponta para o sol. “Sol”, ela diz.

Ella has an idea. She fetches some paper and a pencil. She draws a sun. Then she points at the sun. “Sonne,” she says.

Luca olha para o desenho. Então ele sorri um pouco. “Sole”, ele diz.

Luca looks at the picture. Then he smiles a little. “Sole,” he says.

“Sole!”, diz Ella. “Sol é Sole!”

“Sole!” says Ella. “Sonne is sole!”
