De kleine eend

Het is lente. De zon schijnt. Lina en haar kleine broer Noah zijn op de speeltuin. De speeltuin is in het park, naast een vijver.

It is spring. The sun is shining. Lina and her little brother Noah are at the playground. The playground is in the park, next to a pond.

Lina is op de schommel. Noah is in het zand. Hij bouwt een kasteel. Dan roept hij: “Lina! Kom snel! Daar is een vogel!”

Lina is on the swing. Noah is in the sand. He is building a castle. Then he shouts, “Lina! Come quickly! There’s a bird!”

Lina komt. In het zand zit een kleine vogel. Hij is geel en bruin en heel zacht. Hij heeft een platte snavel.

Lina comes. A little bird is sitting in the sand. It is yellow and brown and very soft. It has a flat beak.

“Dat is geen vogel”, zegt Lina. “Dat is een eend. Een babyeend!”

“That’s not just a bird,” says Lina. “It’s a duck. A baby duck!”

De kleine eend zegt: “Piep! Piep!”

The little duck says, “Peep! Peep!”

“Waar is mama?”, vraagt Noah. Lina kijkt naar links. Ze kijkt naar rechts. Geen mama. Alleen kinderen, moeders, vaders en een hond.

“Where is its mummy?” asks Noah. Lina looks to the left. She looks to the right. No mummy. Only children, mothers, fathers and a dog.

De hond ziet de eend. Hij blaft. “Woef! Woef!” De eend piept luid. Ze rent naar Noah en zit nu op zijn schoen.

The dog sees the duck. He barks. “Woof! Woof!” The duck peeps loudly. It runs to Noah and now it is sitting on his shoe.

“Ze is bang”, zegt Lina. “We moeten mama vinden.”

“It’s scared,” says Lina. “We have to find its mummy.”

“Mama is vast bij de vijver”, zegt Noah. “Eenden wonen bij de vijver.”

“Its mummy is sure to be at the pond,” says Noah. “Ducks live at the pond.”

Lina knikt. “Goed. We gaan naar de vijver.”

Lina nods. “Good. Let’s go to the pond.”
