O patinho

É primavera. O sol brilha. Lina e seu irmãozinho Noah estão no parquinho. O parquinho fica no parque, perto de um lago.

It is spring. The sun is shining. Lina and her little brother Noah are at the playground. The playground is in the park, next to a pond.

Lina está no balanço. Noah está na areia. Ele constrói um castelo. Então ele grita: “Lina! Vem rápido! Tem um pássaro ali!”

Lina is on the swing. Noah is in the sand. He is building a castle. Then he shouts, “Lina! Come quickly! There’s a bird!”

Lina vem. Na areia tem um passarinho. Ele é amarelo e marrom e bem macio. Ele tem um bico achatado.

Lina comes. A little bird is sitting in the sand. It is yellow and brown and very soft. It has a flat beak.

“Isso não é um pássaro”, diz Lina. “Isso é um pato. Um patinho!”

“That’s not just a bird,” says Lina. “It’s a duck. A baby duck!”

O patinho diz: “Piu! Piu!”

The little duck says, “Peep! Peep!”

“Onde está a mamãe?”, pergunta Noah. Lina olha para a esquerda. Ela olha para a direita. Nenhuma mamãe. Só crianças, mães, pais e um cachorro.

“Where is its mummy?” asks Noah. Lina looks to the left. She looks to the right. No mummy. Only children, mothers, fathers and a dog.

O cachorro vê o patinho. Ele late. “Au! Au!” O patinho pia alto. Ele corre para o Noah e fica agora no sapato dele.

The dog sees the duck. He barks. “Woof! Woof!” The duck peeps loudly. It runs to Noah and now it is sitting on his shoe.

“Ele está com medo”, diz Lina. “Nós temos que achar a mamãe.”

“It’s scared,” says Lina. “We have to find its mummy.”

“A mamãe com certeza está no lago”, diz Noah. “Patos moram no lago.”

“Its mummy is sure to be at the pond,” says Noah. “Ducks live at the pond.”

Lina concorda. “Bom. Nós vamos ao lago.”

Lina nods. “Good. Let’s go to the pond.”
