Marta przyjechała do Lizbony w gorącą sobotę we wrześniu. Miała trzydzieści jeden lat i była pielęgniarką z Polski.
Marta arrived in Lisbon on a hot Saturday in September. She was thirty-one, and she was a nurse from Poland.
Jej nowa praca w dużym szpitalu zaczynała się w poniedziałek. Ale najpierw potrzebowała pokoju.
Her new job at a big hospital started on Monday. But first she needed a room.
Znalazła ogłoszenie w telefonie. „Pokój w cichym mieszkaniu. Dziesięć minut od szpitala. 400 euro za miesiąc”.
She found an ad on her phone. “Room in a quiet flat. Ten minutes from the hospital. 400 euros a month.”
Mieszkanie było na czwartym piętrze starego, żółtego budynku. Nie było windy. Marta weszła po schodach ze swoją ciężką torbą.
The flat was on the fourth floor of an old yellow building. There was no lift. Marta climbed the stairs with her heavy bag.
Niewielka, starsza kobieta otworzyła drzwi. Miała białe włosy i czarną sukienkę.
A small old woman opened the door. She had white hair and a black dress.
„Pani jest pielęgniarką?”, zapytała. „Jestem Dona Fernanda. Proszę zdjąć buty”.
“You are the nurse?” she asked. “I am Dona Fernanda. Shoes off, please.”
„Dzień dobry. Jestem Marta”. Marta zdjęła buty i postawiła je przy drzwiach.
“Hello. I’m Marta.” Marta took off her shoes and put them by the door.
Fernanda pokazała jej mieszkanie. Było czyste i bardzo ciche. Na każdej ścianie wisiały stare zdjęcia.
Fernanda showed her the flat. It was clean and very quiet. There were old photos on every wall.
W pokoju było łóżko, biurko i duże okno. Marta wyjrzała na zewnątrz. Zobaczyła czerwone dachy i rzekę.
The room had a bed, a desk and a big window. Marta looked out. She saw red roofs and the river.
„Jest pięknie”, powiedziała. „Ile dokładnie kosztuje ten pokój?”.
“It’s beautiful,” she said. “How much is the room, exactly?”
„Czterysta euro za miesiąc. Woda jest w cenie”.
“Four hundred euros a month. Water is in the price.”
„Czy muszę płacić za internet?”.
“Do I have to pay for the internet?”
„Nie, nie musi pani za niego płacić. Ale jest wolny”.
“No, you don’t have to pay for it. But it’s slow.”
