Marta, eylül ayında sıcak bir cumartesi günü Lizbon’a geldi. Otuz bir yaşındaydı ve Polonyalı bir hemşireydi.
Marta arrived in Lisbon on a hot Saturday in September. She was thirty-one, and she was a nurse from Poland.
Büyük bir hastanedeki yeni işi pazartesi günü başlayacaktı. Ama önce bir odaya ihtiyacı vardı.
Her new job at a big hospital started on Monday. But first she needed a room.
Telefonunda bir ilan buldu. “Sessiz bir dairede oda. Hastaneye on dakika. Ayda 400 avro.”
She found an ad on her phone. “Room in a quiet flat. Ten minutes from the hospital. 400 euros a month.”
Daire, eski sarı bir binanın dördüncü katındaydı. Asansör yoktu. Marta ağır çantasıyla merdivenleri çıktı.
The flat was on the fourth floor of an old yellow building. There was no lift. Marta climbed the stairs with her heavy bag.
Kapıyı yaşlı, küçük bir kadın açtı. Beyaz saçları ve siyah bir elbisesi vardı.
A small old woman opened the door. She had white hair and a black dress.
“Hemşire siz misiniz?” diye sordu. “Ben Dona Fernanda. Ayakkabıları çıkarın, lütfen.”
“You are the nurse?” she asked. “I am Dona Fernanda. Shoes off, please.”
“Merhaba. Ben Marta.” Marta ayakkabılarını çıkardı ve kapının yanına koydu.
“Hello. I’m Marta.” Marta took off her shoes and put them by the door.
Fernanda ona daireyi gösterdi. Daire temizdi ve çok sessizdi. Her duvarda eski fotoğraflar vardı.
Fernanda showed her the flat. It was clean and very quiet. There were old photos on every wall.
Odada bir yatak, bir çalışma masası ve büyük bir pencere vardı. Marta dışarı baktı. Kırmızı çatıları ve nehri gördü.
The room had a bed, a desk and a big window. Marta looked out. She saw red roofs and the river.
“Çok güzel,” dedi. “Oda tam olarak ne kadar?”
“It’s beautiful,” she said. “How much is the room, exactly?”
“Ayda dört yüz avro. Su fiyata dahil.”
“Four hundred euros a month. Water is in the price.”
“İnternet için ödeme yapmalı mıyım?”
“Do I have to pay for the internet?”
“Hayır, onun için ödeme yapmak zorunda değilsiniz. Ama yavaş.”
“No, you don’t have to pay for it. But it’s slow.”
