Fresh Bread

Every morning at five o’clock, Nina is in the kitchen.

每 měi 天 tiān 早上 zǎoshàng 五 wǔ 点 diǎn ，Nina 在 zài 厨房 chúfáng 里 lǐ 。

It is dark and quiet.

天 tiān 很 hěn 黑 hēi ， 很 hěn 安静 ānjìng 。

At six o’clock a bird comes to the back door.

六 liù 点 diǎn ， 一只 yìzhī 鸟 niǎo 来 lái 到 dào 后门 hòumén 。

It is small and grey. It is Grandma’s bird. Every morning it eats Grandma’s bread.

它 tā 很 hěn 小 xiǎo ， 是 shì 灰色 huīsè 的 de 。 它 tā 是 shì 奶奶 nǎinǎi 的 de 鸟 niǎo 。 每 měi 天 tiān 早上 zǎoshàng 它 tā 吃 chī 奶奶 nǎinǎi 的 de 面包 miànbāo 。

Nina gives it a little of her bread.

Nina 给 gěi 它 tā 一点 yìdiǎn 她的 tāde 面包 miànbāo 。

The bird looks at the bread. It looks at Nina.

鸟 niǎo 看 kàn 面包 miànbāo 。 它 tā 看 kàn Nina。

It goes.

它 tā 走 zǒu 了 le 。

Max eats the bread. But Max eats notes.

Max 吃 chī 面包 miànbāo 。 但是 dànshì Max 也 yě 吃 chī 便条 biàntiáo 。

At seven o’clock, the tray is on the chair.

七 qī 点 diǎn ， 托盘 tuōpán 在 zài 椅子 yǐzi 上 shàng 。

Nina closes the kitchen door. She stands behind it.

Nina 关 guān 上 shàng 厨房 chúfáng 的 de 门 mén 。 她 tā 站 zhàn 在 zài 它 tā 后面 hòumiàn 。

She hears people on the stairs. They are not happy.

她 tā 听见 tīngjiàn 楼梯 lóutī 上 shàng 有 yǒu 人 rén 。 他们 tāmen 不 bù 高兴 gāoxìng 。

She hears chairs. Then she hears nothing.

她 tā 听见 tīngjiàn 椅子 yǐzi 。 然后 ránhòu 她 tā 什么都 shénmedōu 没有 méiyǒu 听见 tīngjiàn 。

They are looking at their plates.

他们 tāmen 在 zài 看 kàn 他们的 tāmende 盘子 pánzi 。

They are eating. They stop talking. That is very good.

他们 tāmen 在 zài 吃 chī 。 他们 tāmen 不 bú 再 zài 说话 shuōhuà 。 这 zhè 非常 fēicháng 好 hǎo 。
