Pane fresco

Ogni mattina alle cinque, Nina è in cucina.

Every morning at five o’clock, Nina is in the kitchen.

È buio e silenzioso.

It is dark and quiet.

Alle sei un uccello viene alla porta sul retro.

At six o’clock a bird comes to the back door.

È piccolo e grigio. È l’uccello della nonna. Ogni mattina mangia il pane della nonna.

It is small and grey. It is Grandma’s bird. Every morning it eats Grandma’s bread.

Nina gli dà un po’ del suo pane.

Nina gives it a little of her bread.

L’uccello guarda il pane. Guarda Nina.

The bird looks at the bread. It looks at Nina.

Va via.

It goes.

Max mangia il pane. Ma Max mangia bigliettini.

Max eats the bread. But Max eats notes.

Alle sette il vassoio è sulla sedia.

At seven o’clock, the tray is on the chair.

Nina chiude la porta della cucina. Sta dietro la porta.

Nina closes the kitchen door. She stands behind it.

Sente la gente sulle scale. Non è felice.

She hears people on the stairs. They are not happy.

Sente le sedie. Poi non sente niente.

She hears chairs. Then she hears nothing.

Guardano i loro piatti.

They are looking at their plates.

Mangiano. Smettono di parlare. È molto buono.

They are eating. They stop talking. That is very good.
