Es invierno. Nieva. El jardín es blanco, el techo es blanco y la calle también es blanca.
It is winter. It is snowing. The garden is white, the roof is white, and the street is white too.
Sophie y su hermano Max están con la abuela. La abuela vive en una casa pequeña en un pueblo. Sophie tiene nueve años. Max tiene seis.
Sophie and her brother Max are at Grandma’s. Grandma lives in a small house in a village. Sophie is nine. Max is six.
La abuela ama la nieve. Cada invierno construye un muñeco de nieve con Sophie y Max. Pero hoy la abuela está enferma. Tiene un resfriado. Está en cama y tose.
Grandma loves snow. Every winter she builds a snowman with Sophie and Max. But today Grandma is ill. She has a cold. She is lying in bed, coughing.
«Tanta nieve», dice la abuela. Mira por la ventana. «Y tengo que quedarme en cama. El médico dice que no».
“So much snow,” says Grandma. She looks out of the window. “And I have to stay in bed. The doctor says no.”
Sophie y Max van a la cocina. Max está triste. «La abuela no puede estar en la nieve».
Sophie and Max go into the kitchen. Max is sad. “Grandma can’t go out in the snow.”
Sophie piensa. Luego se ríe. «La abuela no puede estar en la nieve. ¡Pero la nieve puede venir a la abuela!»
Sophie thinks. Then she laughs. “Grandma can’t go out in the snow. But the snow can come to Grandma!”
«¿Nieve en la cama?», pregunta Max. «Está fría. Y mojada».
“Snow in the bed?” asks Max. “That’s cold. And wet.”
«No, no. ¡Ven conmigo! Tengo un plan».
“No, no. Come with me! I have a plan.”
Se ponen las chaquetas, los gorros y los guantes. Salen al jardín. Frente a la ventana de la abuela hay mucha nieve. Muchísima nieve.
They put on their coats, their hats and their gloves. They go into the garden. In front of Grandma’s window there is lots of snow. A great deal of snow.
«Hacemos un muñeco de nieve», dice Sophie. «Justo aquí. Frente a la ventana. Así la abuela ve al muñeco de nieve todo el día».
“We’ll build a snowman,” says Sophie. “Right here. In front of the window. Then Grandma can see the snowman all day.”
