Un om de zăpadă pentru bunica

Este iarnă. Ninge. Grădina este albă, acoperișul este alb, și strada este și ea albă.

It is winter. It is snowing. The garden is white, the roof is white, and the street is white too.

Sophie și fratele ei Max sunt la bunica. Bunica locuiește într-o casă mică dintr-un sat. Sophie are nouă ani. Max are șase ani.

Sophie and her brother Max are at Grandma’s. Grandma lives in a small house in a village. Sophie is nine. Max is six.

Bunica iubește zăpada. În fiecare iarnă ea face un om de zăpadă cu Sophie și Max. Dar astăzi bunica este bolnavă. Ea are o răceală. Ea stă în pat și tușește.

Grandma loves snow. Every winter she builds a snowman with Sophie and Max. But today Grandma is ill. She has a cold. She is lying in bed, coughing.

„Atâta zăpadă”, spune bunica. Ea se uită pe fereastră. „Și eu trebuie să stau în pat. Doctorul spune nu.”

“So much snow,” says Grandma. She looks out of the window. “And I have to stay in bed. The doctor says no.”

Sophie și Max merg în bucătărie. Max este trist. „Bunica nu poate să iasă în zăpadă.”

Sophie and Max go into the kitchen. Max is sad. “Grandma can’t go out in the snow.”

Sophie se gândește. Apoi ea râde. „Bunica nu poate să iasă în zăpadă. Dar zăpada poate să vină la bunica!”

Sophie thinks. Then she laughs. “Grandma can’t go out in the snow. But the snow can come to Grandma!”

„Zăpadă în pat?”, întreabă Max. „Este rece. Și udă.”

“Snow in the bed?” asks Max. “That’s cold. And wet.”

„Nu, nu. Vino cu mine! Eu am un plan.”

“No, no. Come with me! I have a plan.”

Ei își pun gecile, căciulile și mănușile. Ei merg în grădină. În fața ferestrei bunicii este multă zăpadă. Foarte multă zăpadă.

They put on their coats, their hats and their gloves. They go into the garden. In front of Grandma’s window there is lots of snow. A great deal of snow.

„Noi facem un om de zăpadă”, spune Sophie. „Chiar aici. În fața ferestrei. Atunci bunica vede omul de zăpadă toată ziua.”

“We’ll build a snowman,” says Sophie. “Right here. In front of the window. Then Grandma can see the snowman all day.”
