Bałwan dla babci

Jest zima. Pada śnieg. Ogród jest biały, dach jest biały i ulica też jest biała.

It is winter. It is snowing. The garden is white, the roof is white, and the street is white too.

Sophie i jej brat Max są u babci. Babcia mieszka w małym domu na wsi. Sophie ma dziewięć lat. Max ma sześć lat.

Sophie and her brother Max are at Grandma’s. Grandma lives in a small house in a village. Sophie is nine. Max is six.

Babcia kocha śnieg. Każdej zimy lepi z Sophie i Maxem bałwana. Ale dzisiaj babcia jest chora. Ma przeziębienie. Leży w łóżku i kaszle.

Grandma loves snow. Every winter she builds a snowman with Sophie and Max. But today Grandma is ill. She has a cold. She is lying in bed, coughing.

„Tyle śniegu”, mówi babcia. Patrzy przez okno. „A ja muszę zostać w łóżku. Lekarz mówi nie”.

“So much snow,” says Grandma. She looks out of the window. “And I have to stay in bed. The doctor says no.”

Sophie i Max idą do kuchni. Max jest smutny. „Babcia nie może iść na śnieg”.

Sophie and Max go into the kitchen. Max is sad. “Grandma can’t go out in the snow.”

Sophie myśli. Potem się śmieje. „Babcia nie może iść na śnieg. Ale śnieg może przyjść do babci!”

Sophie thinks. Then she laughs. “Grandma can’t go out in the snow. But the snow can come to Grandma!”

„Śnieg w łóżku?”, pyta Max. „To jest zimne. I mokre”.

“Snow in the bed?” asks Max. “That’s cold. And wet.”

„Nie, nie. Chodź ze mną! Mam plan”.

“No, no. Come with me! I have a plan.”

Wkładają kurtki, czapki i rękawiczki. Idą do ogrodu. Przed oknem babci jest dużo śniegu. Bardzo dużo śniegu.

They put on their coats, their hats and their gloves. They go into the garden. In front of Grandma’s window there is lots of snow. A great deal of snow.

„Lepimy bałwana”, mówi Sophie. „Dokładnie tutaj. Przed oknem. Wtedy babcia widzi bałwana przez cały dzień”.

“We’ll build a snowman,” says Sophie. “Right here. In front of the window. Then Grandma can see the snowman all day.”
