Um boneco de neve para a vovó

É inverno. Está nevando. O jardim está branco, o telhado está branco e a rua também está branca.

It is winter. It is snowing. The garden is white, the roof is white, and the street is white too.

Sophie e seu irmão Max estão na casa da vovó. A vovó mora em uma casa pequena em um vilarejo. Sophie tem nove anos. Max tem seis.

Sophie and her brother Max are at Grandma’s. Grandma lives in a small house in a village. Sophie is nine. Max is six.

A vovó ama a neve. Todo inverno ela faz um boneco de neve com Sophie e Max. Mas hoje a vovó está doente. Ela está resfriada. Ela fica na cama e tosse.

Grandma loves snow. Every winter she builds a snowman with Sophie and Max. But today Grandma is ill. She has a cold. She is lying in bed, coughing.

“Quanta neve”, diz a vovó. Ela olha pela janela. “E eu preciso ficar na cama. O médico diz que não posso sair.”

“So much snow,” says Grandma. She looks out of the window. “And I have to stay in bed. The doctor says no.”

Sophie e Max vão para a cozinha. Max está triste. “A vovó não pode ir para a neve.”

Sophie and Max go into the kitchen. Max is sad. “Grandma can’t go out in the snow.”

Sophie pensa. Então ela ri. “A vovó não pode ir para a neve. Mas a neve pode vir até a vovó!”

Sophie thinks. Then she laughs. “Grandma can’t go out in the snow. But the snow can come to Grandma!”

“Neve na cama?”, pergunta Max. “Isso é frio. E molhado.”

“Snow in the bed?” asks Max. “That’s cold. And wet.”

“Não, não. Vem comigo! Eu tenho um plano.”

“No, no. Come with me! I have a plan.”

Eles vestem as jaquetas, os gorros e as luvas. Eles vão para o jardim. Diante da janela da vovó tem muita neve. Muita neve mesmo.

They put on their coats, their hats and their gloves. They go into the garden. In front of Grandma’s window there is lots of snow. A great deal of snow.

“Nós fazemos um boneco de neve”, diz Sophie. “Exatamente aqui. Diante da janela. Assim a vovó vê o boneco de neve o dia todo.”

“We’ll build a snowman,” says Sophie. “Right here. In front of the window. Then Grandma can see the snowman all day.”
