Het is winter. Het sneeuwt. De tuin is wit, het dak is wit, en de straat is ook wit.
It is winter. It is snowing. The garden is white, the roof is white, and the street is white too.
Sophie en haar broer Max zijn bij oma. Oma woont in een klein huis in een dorp. Sophie is negen. Max is zes.
Sophie and her brother Max are at Grandma’s. Grandma lives in a small house in a village. Sophie is nine. Max is six.
Oma houdt van sneeuw. Elke winter maakt ze met Sophie en Max een sneeuwpop. Maar vandaag is oma ziek. Ze heeft een verkoudheid. Ze ligt in bed en hoest.
Grandma loves snow. Every winter she builds a snowman with Sophie and Max. But today Grandma is ill. She has a cold. She is lying in bed, coughing.
“Zo veel sneeuw”, zegt oma. Ze kijkt uit het raam. “En ik moet in bed blijven. De dokter zegt nee.”
“So much snow,” says Grandma. She looks out of the window. “And I have to stay in bed. The doctor says no.”
Sophie en Max gaan naar de keuken. Max is verdrietig. “Oma kan niet in de sneeuw.”
Sophie and Max go into the kitchen. Max is sad. “Grandma can’t go out in the snow.”
Sophie denkt na. Dan lacht ze. “Oma kan niet in de sneeuw. Maar de sneeuw kan naar oma komen!”
Sophie thinks. Then she laughs. “Grandma can’t go out in the snow. But the snow can come to Grandma!”
“Sneeuw in bed?”, vraagt Max. “Dat is koud. En nat.”
“Snow in the bed?” asks Max. “That’s cold. And wet.”
“Nee, nee. Ga mee! Ik heb een plan.”
“No, no. Come with me! I have a plan.”
Ze trekken de jassen aan, de mutsen en de handschoenen. Ze gaan de tuin in. Voor het raam van oma is veel sneeuw. Heel veel sneeuw.
They put on their coats, their hats and their gloves. They go into the garden. In front of Grandma’s window there is lots of snow. A great deal of snow.
“We maken een sneeuwpop”, zegt Sophie. “Precies hier. Voor het raam. Dan ziet oma de sneeuwpop de hele dag.”
“We’ll build a snowman,” says Sophie. “Right here. In front of the window. Then Grandma can see the snowman all day.”
