Tous les jours à une heure, Priya mange un sandwich à son bureau. Un sandwich au fromage. Un sandwich aux œufs. Un sandwich au poulet.
Every day at one o’clock, Priya eats a sandwich at her desk. A cheese sandwich. An egg sandwich. A chicken sandwich.
« Londres est super, » pense-t-elle. « Mais un sandwich tous les jours ? Mon pays me manque. »
“London is great,” she thinks. “But a sandwich every day? I miss home.”
Le soir, elle appelle sa mère en vidéo. Le visage de sa mère est sur l’écran du téléphone.
In the evening, she calls her mother on video. Her mother’s face is on the phone screen.
« Priya ! Est-ce que tu manges ? » demande sa mère.
“Priya! Are you eating?” asks her mother.
« Oui, maman. Je mange un sandwich tous les jours. »
“Yes, Mum. I eat a sandwich every day.”
« Un sandwich ? Ce n’est pas de la nourriture. C’est du pain. »
“A sandwich? That is not food. That is bread.”
Priya rit. « C’est de la nourriture à Londres, maman. »
Priya laughs. “It is food in London, Mum.”
« Qu’est-ce que tu veux pour le dîner ? Dis-moi. »
“What do you want for dinner? Tell me.”
Priya réfléchit. « Ton dal, maman. Je veux ton dal. »
Priya thinks. “Your dal, Mum. I want your dal.”
Sa mère sourit. « Mon dal est facile. Tu peux le faire. »
Her mother smiles. “My dal is easy. You can make it.”
« Vraiment ? »
“Can I?”
