Every day at one o’clock, Priya eats a sandwich at her desk. A cheese sandwich. An egg sandwich. A chicken sandwich.
“Londres é ótima”, ela pensa. “Mas um sanduíche todo dia? Sinto falta de casa.”
“London is great,” she thinks. “But a sandwich every day? I miss home.”
À noite, ela liga para a mãe dela por vídeo. O rosto da mãe dela está na tela do celular.

“Priya! Você está comendo?”, pergunta a mãe dela.

“Sim, mãe. Eu como um sanduíche todo dia.”
“Yes, Mum. I eat a sandwich every day.”
“Um sanduíche? Isso não é comida. Isso é pão.”
“A sandwich? That is not food. That is bread.”
Priya ri. “É comida em Londres, mãe.”
Priya laughs. “It is food in London, Mum.”
“O que você quer para o jantar? Me diz.”
“What do you want for dinner? Tell me.”
Priya pensa. “O seu dal, mãe. Eu quero o seu dal.”

A mãe dela sorri. “O meu dal é fácil. Você pode fazer.”
Her mother smiles. “My dal is easy. You can make it.”
“Eu posso?”
