Beatriz pracowała w gabinecie dentystycznym w São Paulo. Cały dzień odbierała telefony, umawiała wizyty i uśmiechała się do zdenerwowanych ludzi.
Beatriz worked at a dentist’s office in São Paulo. She answered the phone, made appointments and smiled at nervous people all day.
Miała trzydzieści siedem lat i była po rozwodzie. Mąż odszedł dwa lata temu. Teraz mieszkał w Rio z nową żoną.
She was thirty-seven and divorced. Her husband left two years ago. He lived in Rio now, with a new wife.
Każdego wieczoru Beatriz wracała do domu, robiła kolację i oglądała telewizję ze swoim kotem.
Every evening, Beatriz went home, made dinner and watched TV with her cat.
W piątek w porze lunchu do gabinetu przyszła jej przyjaciółka Carla. Zjadły kanapki w parku po drugiej stronie ulicy.
On Friday, her friend Carla came to the office at lunchtime. They ate sandwiches in the park across the street.
„Co robiłaś w zeszły weekend?” – zapytała Carla.
“What did you do last weekend?” asked Carla.
„Sprzątałam mieszkanie. Oglądałam serial. Umyłam kota”.
“I cleaned the flat. I watched a series. I washed the cat.”
„Umyłaś kota?”
“You washed the cat?”
„Nie podobało mu się”.
“He didn’t like it.”
Carla odłożyła kanapkę. „Bia, powinnaś częściej wychodzić. Masz trzydzieści siedem lat, a nie osiemdziesiąt”.
Carla put down her sandwich. “Bia, you should go out more. You’re thirty-seven, not eighty.”
„Wychodzę. Codziennie chodzę do pracy”.
“I go out. I go to work every day.”
„To nie jest wyjście z domu. Posłuchaj. Na mojej ulicy jest szkoła tańca. Mają kurs forró dla początkujących. Może spróbujesz?”
“That’s not going out. Listen. There’s a dance school on my street. They have a forró class for beginners. Why don’t you try it?”
„Forró? Ja? Nie umiem tańczyć. Mam dwie lewe nogi”.
“Forró? Me? I can’t dance. I have two left feet.”
„Wszyscy w grupie dla początkujących mają dwie lewe nogi. Dlatego to jest grupa dla początkujących”.
“Everybody has two left feet in a class for beginners. That’s why it’s a class for beginners.”
