Pero hoy todo es diferente. Hoy Mimi no viene. Lena se despierta sola. La cama está vacía. Ningún «miau». Nada.
But today everything is different. Today Mimi doesn’t come. Lena wakes up alone. The bed is empty. No “miaow”. Nothing.
—¿Mimi? —llama Lena—. Mimi, ¿dónde estás?
“Mimi?” calls Lena. “Mimi, where are you?”
Lena busca en la cocina. Mamá bebe café. —Mamá, ¿dónde está Mimi? —No lo sé —dice mamá—. ¿Quizás en el jardín?
Lena looks in the kitchen. Mum is drinking coffee. “Mum, where is Mimi?” “I don’t know,” says Mum. “Maybe in the garden?”
Lena va al jardín. La hierba está mojada. Un pájaro está sentado en el árbol. Pero Mimi no está allí.
Lena goes into the garden. The grass is wet. A bird is sitting in the tree. But Mimi isn’t there.
—¡Mimi! ¡Mimi! —Lena llama en voz alta. El pájaro se va volando. Pero no viene ninguna gata.
“Mimi! Mimi!” Lena calls loudly. The bird flies away. But no cat comes.
Lena vuelve a la casa. Busca debajo del sofá. Allí hay una pelota. Allí hay un calcetín. Allí hay una galleta vieja. Pero allí no hay ninguna gata.
Lena goes back into the house. She looks under the sofa. There is a ball. There is a sock. There is an old biscuit. But there is no cat.
Busca detrás del armario. Allí hay polvo. Mucho polvo. Lena tiene que estornudar. ¡Achís! Pero allí no hay ninguna gata.
She looks behind the wardrobe. There is dust. Lots of dust. Lena has to sneeze. “Atchoo!” But there is no cat.
Papá entra en la sala de estar. —Lena, ¿qué haces ahí abajo? —Busco a Mimi. ¡Mimi no está!
Dad comes into the living room. “Lena, what are you doing down there?” “I’m looking for Mimi. Mimi is gone!”
Papá también busca. Busca en el baño. Busca en el garaje. Incluso busca en el coche. Ninguna Mimi.
Dad looks too. He looks in the bathroom. He looks in the garage. He even looks in the car. No Mimi.
