La chambre douze

Il est neuf heures du matin. L’homme aux trois sacs sort.

It is nine o’clock in the morning. The man with three bags goes out.

Mme Berg donne une clé à Nina.

Mrs Berg gives Nina a key.

« Nettoyez la salle de bain de la chambre douze », dit-elle.

“Clean the bathroom in room twelve,” she says.

Nina monte les quatre-vingts marches. Elle ferme la porte doucement.

Nina goes up the eighty stairs. She closes the door quietly.

La chambre est très calme.

The room is very quiet.

Elle sort la photo de son sac.

She takes the photo out of her bag.

Mamie est vieille dessus, et elle sourit.

Grandma is old in it, and she is smiling.

Behind her head there is a window.

Nina va à la fenêtre.

Nina goes to the window.

There is a small old number on it. A 1 and a 2.

C’est la même fenêtre. Ici, c’est la même lumière.

It is the same window. Here is the same light.

She puts her shoes on the same floor.

Now she is standing where Grandma stands.

Il n’y a pas de porte bleue ici. Elle peut le voir. Elle la cherche.

There is no blue door here. She can see that. She looks for it.
