小兔霍佩尔睡不着

森林里是晚上。月亮又圆又亮。鸟儿在睡觉。老鼠在睡觉。狐狸在睡觉。

It is night in the forest. The moon is round and bright. The birds are asleep. The mice are asleep. The foxes are asleep.

兔子也在睡觉。兔妈妈在睡觉。兔爸爸在睡觉。兄弟姐妹在睡觉。只有小霍佩尔不睡觉。

The rabbits are asleep too. Mummy Rabbit is asleep. Daddy Rabbit is asleep. The brothers and sisters are asleep. Only little Hoppel isn’t asleep.

霍佩尔躺在床上。他闭上眼睛。他睁开眼睛。他又闭上眼睛。

Hoppel lies in bed. He closes his eyes. He opens his eyes. He closes his eyes again.

他听见一个声音。“咔。咔。”

Then he hears something. “Grrr. Grrr.”

霍佩尔睁开眼睛。“这是什么？”

Hoppel opens his eyes. “What’s that?”

“咔。咔。”

“Grrr. Grrr.”

霍佩尔有一点儿怕。他站起来，轻轻走出家门。兔子的家在一棵树下面。

Hoppel is a little nervous. He gets up and goes quietly out of the house. The rabbits’ house is under a tree.

树上有猫头鹰。它有大大的黄眼睛。猫头鹰晚上不睡觉。

Up in the tree sits the owl. She has big yellow eyes. Owls don’t sleep at night.

“猫头鹰，猫头鹰！是你发出‘咔，咔’的声音吗？”

“Owl, Owl! Are you going ‘grrr, grrr’?”

“不是，”猫头鹰说。“我发出‘呜，呜’的声音。不是‘咔’。”

“No,” says the owl. “I go ‘hoo-hoo’. Not ‘grrr’.”

“咔。咔。”

“Grrr. Grrr.”

“在那儿！你听见了吗？”霍佩尔问。猫头鹰没听见。它说：“去问青蛙。青蛙在池塘那儿。”

“There! Can you hear that?” asks Hoppel. The owl hears nothing. “Ask the frog,” she says. “The frog is at the pond.”
