Quelqu’un frappait à la porte. Il était trois heures du matin.
Somebody was knocking on the door. It was three o’clock in the morning.
Sam opened his eyes and listened. Knock, knock, knock. Then a man’s voice: “I know you’re awake! I can hear you!”
Sam n’était pas réveillé. Enfin, maintenant, il l’était. Il est allé à la porte en t-shirt et il a ouvert.
Sam wasn’t awake. Well, now he was. He went to the door in his T-shirt and opened it.
It was Norbert from 2A, in blue pyjamas, with a very red face.
“Every night,” said Norbert. “Every night this week, at exactly three o’clock, there’s a noise in your flat. Bang, bang, bang. For half an hour. My bedroom is two floors under your kitchen, and in this building you hear everything through the pipes. And I have to get up at six.”
“I’m really sorry,” said Sam. “But I was asleep. I think everybody here was asleep.”
« Alors qui fait ce bruit ? Un fantôme ? »
“Then who is making the noise? A ghost?”
Boum. Boum. Boum.
At that moment, from the kitchen, they both heard it. Bang. Bang. Bang.
Norbert a regardé Sam. Personne n’a bougé.
Norbert looked at Sam. Sam looked at the kitchen door. Nobody moved.
« Vas-y le premier, a dit Norbert. C’est ton appartement. »
“You go first,” said Norbert. “It’s your flat.”
Sam opened the kitchen door very slowly. The kitchen was dark and empty. And the noise stopped.
« Bon, a dit Norbert. »
“Well,” said Norbert. “I’m going back to bed. But if your ghost wakes me up again, I’m calling the police. Or a priest. Whoever comes first.”
