夜里的声音

有人在敲门。那时是夜里三点。

Somebody was knocking on the door. It was three o’clock in the morning.

山姆睁开眼睛听着。咚，咚，咚。然后是一个男人的声音：“我知道你醒着！我能听到你！”

Sam opened his eyes and listened. Knock, knock, knock. Then a man’s voice: “I know you’re awake! I can hear you!”

山姆本来没醒。不过，现在他醒了。他穿着T恤走到门前，打开了门。

Sam wasn’t awake. Well, now he was. He went to the door in his T-shirt and opened it.

是2A的诺伯特，穿着蓝色的睡衣，脸非常红。

It was Norbert from 2A, in blue pyjamas, with a very red face.

“每天夜里，”诺伯特说，“这周每天夜里三点整，你的房间里都有声音。砰，砰，砰。响半个小时。我的卧室就在你家厨房正下方两层，在这栋楼里，通过水管什么都能听到。而我六点就得起床。”

“Every night,” said Norbert. “Every night this week, at exactly three o’clock, there’s a noise in your flat. Bang, bang, bang. For half an hour. My bedroom is two floors under your kitchen, and in this building you hear everything through the pipes. And I have to get up at six.”

“真的很对不起，”山姆说，“但我刚才睡着了。我觉得这里的大家都睡着了。”

“I’m really sorry,” said Sam. “But I was asleep. I think everybody here was asleep.”

“那是谁在弄出声音？鬼吗？”

“Then who is making the noise? A ghost?”

就在这时，他们都听到了从厨房传来的声音。砰。砰。砰。

At that moment, from the kitchen, they both heard it. Bang. Bang. Bang.

诺伯特看着山姆。山姆看着厨房的门。没有人动。

Norbert looked at Sam. Sam looked at the kitchen door. Nobody moved.

“你先去，”诺伯特说，“这是你的公寓。”

“You go first,” said Norbert. “It’s your flat.”

山姆很慢地打开了厨房的门。厨房里又黑又空。声音停了。

Sam opened the kitchen door very slowly. The kitchen was dark and empty. And the noise stopped.

“好吧，”诺伯特说，“我回去睡觉了。但要是你的鬼再把我吵醒，我就报警。或者找神父。谁先来找谁。”

“Well,” said Norbert. “I’m going back to bed. But if your ghost wakes me up again, I’m calling the police. Or a priest. Whoever comes first.”
