Piotr lives in Warsaw. He is forty-five. He works in a big office in the city.

ピョートルはワルシャワに住んでいます。四十五才です。町の大きな会社で働いています。

Every morning, he drives to work. He takes the lift to the eighth floor. He sits at his desk all day.

毎朝、車で会社へ行きます。エレベーターで八階へ行きます。一日中つくえの前にすわります。

In the evening, he drives home. He sits on the sofa and watches TV.

夕方、車で家へ帰ります。ソファにすわります。テレビを見ます。

Today, Piotr is not at work. He is at the doctor’s.

今日、ピョートルは会社にいません。病院にいます。

The doctor is a young woman with short hair. She looks at her computer for a long time.

お医者さんは若い女の人です。かみが短いです。長い時間、パソコンを見ます。

“Mr Piotr, how much do you walk?” she asks.

「ピョートルさん、どれくらい歩きますか」とお医者さんは聞きます。

“Walk? I walk from my car to my desk.”

「歩きますか。車からつくえまで歩きます」

“And at the weekend?”

「週末はどうですか」

“At the weekend, I walk from my sofa to my kitchen.”

「週末は、ソファから台所まで歩きます」

The doctor does not laugh. “Your heart is not happy, Mr Piotr. Your heart needs you to walk.”

お医者さんは笑いません。「ピョートルさん、心ぞうがよくないです。歩いてください」

“How much?”

「どれくらいですか」

“Ten thousand steps. Every day.”

「一万歩です。毎日です」

Piotr looks at her. “Ten thousand? Every day? That is a joke.”

ピョートルはお医者さんを見ます。「一万歩ですか。毎日ですか。冗談でしょう」
