Piotr woont in Warschau. Hij is vijfenveertig. Hij werkt in een groot kantoor in de stad.

Piotr lives in Warsaw. He is forty-five. He works in a big office in the city.

Elke ochtend rijdt hij met de auto naar het werk. Hij neemt de lift naar de achtste verdieping. Hij zit de hele dag aan zijn bureau.

Every morning, he drives to work. He takes the lift to the eighth floor. He sits at his desk all day.

In de avond rijdt hij naar huis. Hij zit op de bank en kijkt tv.

In the evening, he drives home. He sits on the sofa and watches TV.

Vandaag is Piotr niet op het werk. Hij is bij de dokter.

Today, Piotr is not at work. He is at the doctor’s.

De dokter is een jonge vrouw met kort haar. Ze kijkt lange tijd naar haar computer.

The doctor is a young woman with short hair. She looks at her computer for a long time.

“Meneer Piotr, hoeveel loopt u?” vraagt ze.

“Mr Piotr, how much do you walk?” she asks.

“Lopen? Ik loop van mijn auto naar mijn bureau.”

“Walk? I walk from my car to my desk.”

“En in het weekend?”

“And at the weekend?”

“In het weekend loop ik van mijn bank naar mijn keuken.”

“At the weekend, I walk from my sofa to my kitchen.”

De dokter lacht niet. “Uw hart is niet blij, meneer Piotr. Uw hart wil dat u loopt.”

The doctor does not laugh. “Your heart is not happy, Mr Piotr. Your heart needs you to walk.”

“Hoeveel?”

“How much?”

“Tienduizend stappen. Elke dag.”

“Ten thousand steps. Every day.”

Piotr kijkt naar haar. “Tienduizend? Elke dag? Dat is een grap.”

Piotr looks at her. “Ten thousand? Every day? That is a joke.”
