The number
Piotr habite à Varsovie. Il a quarante-cinq ans. Il travaille dans un grand bureau dans la ville.
Piotr lives in Warsaw. He is forty-five. He works in a big office in the city.
Chaque matin, il va au travail en voiture. Il prend l’ascenseur jusqu’au huitième étage. Il reste assis à son bureau toute la journée.
Every morning, he drives to work. He takes the lift to the eighth floor. He sits at his desk all day.
Le soir, il rentre chez lui en voiture. Il s’assoit sur le canapé et regarde la télévision.
In the evening, he drives home. He sits on the sofa and watches TV.
Aujourd’hui, Piotr n’est pas au travail. Il est chez le médecin.
Today, Piotr is not at work. He is at the doctor’s.
Le médecin est une jeune femme avec des cheveux courts. Elle regarde son ordinateur pendant longtemps.
The doctor is a young woman with short hair. She looks at her computer for a long time.
« Monsieur Piotr, combien est-ce que vous marchez ? » demande-t-elle.
“Mr Piotr, how much do you walk?” she asks.
« Marcher ? Je marche de ma voiture à mon bureau. »
“Walk? I walk from my car to my desk.”
« Et le week-end ? »
“And at the weekend?”
« Le week-end, je marche de mon canapé à ma cuisine. »
“At the weekend, I walk from my sofa to my kitchen.”
Le médecin ne rit pas. « Votre cœur n’est pas content, Monsieur Piotr. Pour votre cœur, vous devez marcher. »
The doctor does not laugh. “Your heart is not happy, Mr Piotr. Your heart needs you to walk.”
« Combien ? »
“How much?”
« Dix mille pas. Chaque jour. »
“Ten thousand steps. Every day.”
Piotr la regarde. « Dix mille ? Chaque jour ? C’est une blague. »
Piotr looks at her. “Ten thousand? Every day? That is a joke.”
