So fängt es an
Der leere Felsen
The Empty Rock
On the morning after the thunderstorm there was a shoe lying on the rock in the middle of the Rhine Falls, and Nino Keller recognised it at once. It was a red trainer with a fish painted on the heel, and in the whole of Neuhausen there was only one girl who wore shoes like that. Nino stood at the railing of the viewing platform, his hands clenched around the cold iron, and stared through the spray at the dark stone. The water thundered so loudly that he could no longer hear his own breathing.
«Selin», flüsterte er.
"Selin," he whispered.

Reading it as a parallel text
A parallel text puts a story next to its translation, paragraph by paragraph. Read in the language you are working on and glance across only when a sentence stops you: the story keeps moving, and the words you look up stay in context. More in how to read with a parallel text.
