Come comincia
Fünf Uhr früh
Five in the Morning
On the first morning of her visit, Ines Lanz stood in the cowshed at five o'clock in the morning, in white trainers, filming a cow. Samuel Wüthrich saw it from the milking machine and knew, with a sudden sense of unease, that this summer was going to be a disaster. The cow was called Blüemli; she was the oldest in the shed, and she did not like strangers. But Ines, as guileless as any city child, held the phone so close to her nose that it looked as if she wanted to paint her portrait.
«Nicht so nahe», warnte Samuel. «Blüemli ist heikel.»
"Not so close," Samuel warned. "Blüemli is touchy."

Reading it as a parallel text
A parallel text puts a story next to its translation, paragraph by paragraph. Read in the language you are working on and glance across only when a sentence stops you: the story keeps moving, and the words you look up stay in context. More in how to read with a parallel text.
