Everyday Talk

Short German and English stories written for this library, told almost entirely in dialogue, with a translation beside every line. The same group of flatmates, neighbours and friends deal with ordinary days: a parcel that went missing, a noisy neighbour, a visit to the doctor, plans that fall apart.

The characters talk the way people really talk: short answers, questions, everyday phrases, small words that carry a lot of meaning. Each edition uses the natural spoken phrases of its own language, not a word-for-word copy of another, so reading two editions side by side shows how each language says the same everyday thing.

The series is graded: the A2 stories keep to common words and short exchanges, the B1 stories are longer, with livelier conversations and a wider vocabulary.
