Rauch über dem Froschweiher
DuoText
In each language: Rauch über dem Froschweiher · Smoke over the Frog Pond
A Sunday lunch at the Rosinli, a forbidden drone, a crash somewhere over the woods: George and Victor want to fetch it back before anyone notices. At the frog pond they find only a burnt patch in the leaves, and soon they are following a man they take for a thief all the way to the Sennbach forest hut. Then smoke rises above the fir trees, and the way to help leads across the Hittnau golf course.

Sonntag auf dem Rosinli
Sunday at the Rosinli
"It can fly all the way to Lake Pfäffikon if I want," said Victor, patting the black rucksack beside his chair. "That's nothing."
George glanced round quickly to see whether any of the grown-ups had been listening. But the parents were sitting at the other end of the long table on the terrace of the Rosinli mountain restaurant, talking about mortgages and routes to school, and noticed nothing. In the rucksack lay Victor's father's drone, an expensive grey machine with four propellers and a camera that Victor wasn't even allowed to touch. George knew that because Victor had told him himself, and with undisguised pride, as if a ban were a medal.

Reading it as a parallel text
A parallel text puts a story next to its translation, paragraph by paragraph. Read in the language you are working on and glance across only when a sentence stops you: the story keeps moving, and the words you look up stay in context. More in how to read with a parallel text.
