In each language: Die Mutprobe von Chur · The Dare in Chur
Twelve-year-old Elias wakes up in Chur's hospital with a shattered leg after a dare on the railway embankment went wrong, and his two best friends have vanished without a word. Come comincia
Zimmer 214
Room 214
When the door of room 214 swung open, Elias Tscharner didn't know for a moment where he was. Above him was a white ceiling with a brown water stain that looked like a fish without a tail. It smelled of disinfectant and camomile tea. His left leg lay on a pillow, heavy as a sack of cement, and somewhere inside it a dull pain was throbbing.
«Guten Morgen, Held», sagte eine tiefe Stimme. «Ich bin Pfleger Men. Weisst du, wo du bist?»
"Good morning, hero," said a deep voice. "I'm Men, your nurse. Do you know where you are?"

Reading it as a parallel text
A parallel text puts a story next to its translation, paragraph by paragraph. Read in the language you are working on and glance across only when a sentence stops you: the story keeps moving, and the words you look up stay in context. More in how to read with a parallel text.
